Human rights

The idea of human rights is a lighthouse, which guided the countries, where economic and political changes have a place. This idea does not cease to be absolute, unquestioned authority and value. Thus, it is necessary to discuss the meaning of human rights for the contemporary world in the body of this project. The main aim of this discussion is to prove that the problem that relates to human rights is an important issue for the contemporary world, and the main sources of information are The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and the article Care and Human Rights in a Globalized World written by Serena Parekh.

First of all, basing on contemporary situation in the sphere of human rights it is important to remind that respect for human rights and democratic standards is one of the key indicators for evaluating the degree of development of any society and state, nowadays. It is good that many countries raise the question of human rights and put it into the cornerstone of their foreign policy; it is good that there are a number of influential human rights international non-governmental organizations, which are working for the purpose of to protect people from the violation of their rights.

There is no person who would not love freedom, but a fair person requires freedom for all people, while unfair ”“ just for himself. In regard to this topic Parekh wrote that “I suggest that a fully adequate recognition of the human rights of others requires not only the first of these forms of recognition [rigorous recognition, the recognition based on abstract equality] but also the second, more differentiated, solidaristic type of recognition” (Parekh, 2008). The author’s position allows to say that people need solidaric recognition of their rights that includes a more real understanding of the distinctiveness of others, basing on their behavior in concrete circumstances and taking into account the difficulties that they are faced to. Parekh paid a specific attention on the problem of care in the frames of human rights discussion, because it really “needs to play a bigger role in global justice than it currently does” (Parekh, 2008).

Comparing both sources of information taken for discussion, the article written by Parekh and The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, we see that the Article 6 of the last document states that “Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law” (The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights). It means that it is really impossible to overestimate the necessity of recognition, because it is a departure from the basic principles of democracy and the depreciation of the idea of human rights in the modern world and people needs to be protected as fast as possible.

Thus, taking everything into consideration, it should be noted that human rights are a complete guide that allows to apply the ”˜human dimension’ to the government, law, ethics and morality. Human rights and freedoms are determined by measuring their regulatory and social cultural activities. Moreover, they appear as one of the greatest cultural treasures. Human rights cannot be considered as isolated element, because in the study of human rights theory it is inevitably its intersection with a number of disciplines: history and theory of law; all sectoral and procedural jurisprudence. In conclusion, it is necessary to remember that human rights are the highest value, and to respect and observe them is the first duty of any state.
