Self-efficacy assessment can be very helpful in terms of the professional development of an individual. Self-assessment allows an individual to define clearly strengths and weaknesses and potential areas for improvement which he or she has or can face in the future. In this respect, I can refer to my personal experience, when self-efficacy assessment helped in the development of some of my skills. For instance, I practiced soccer in the past and I was really interested in this sport, but steadily I lost motivation for practicing soccer because I felt that I failed to progress in this sport. I critically evaluated my achievements in soccer and I arrived to the idea that I failed to develop new skills, instead, I worked on the improvement of skills I had and I understood that I have a lot to do to improve my skills in this sport. Also, I learned French, I needed self-efficacy assessment to understand whether I should keep learning French or I am not able to learn foreign languages. For this purpose I identified my strengths, such as my keen interest to French language and culture. Then, I identified my advancements and achievements in French, such as ability to speak fluently. I defined areas for improvement, such as grammar and writing skills. In such a way, my self-efficacy assessment proved that I made a considerable progress in French and I kept learning this language.
As for my professional skills, I can distinguish five skills that I need in my work: communication skills, organizational skills, decision making skills, conflict management skills, and leadership skills. In this regard, I would distinguish communication and organizational skills as the target skills for my self-efficacy assessment. I have already developed communication skills since I do not have problems in communication with different people, although I have difficulties in communication with my clients. Moreover, I need to improve my communication with my clients since I am not always able to stick to my work, even when I am talking to my clients. On the other hand, I feel certain progress in my communication skills. For instance, I can communicate easily even if I am talking to a complete stranger. Also, I do not feel nervous when I am communicating with my clients. As for my organizational skills, I was always working on them. I used to develop schedules and action plans before starting some projects or work with clients. At the same time, I need to improve my organizational skills to expand my personal self-organization on people whom I am working with. In fact, I need my colleagues and clients to work in accordance to the schedule and plan we have developed. Nevertheless, I have certain progress in this regard, namely my clients coordinate their plans with me and attempt to control the course of the treatment.
Thus, my self-accuracy assessment reveals my strengths, areas for improvement and insights. In such a way, I can identify my current achievements and strengths as well as areas for improvement. The latter are particularly important because they help me to develop a plan of my professional development and focus on the development of specific skills. Taking into consideration the positive impact of self-accuracy assessment on professional development, I would recommend professionals to apply widely self-accuracy assessment in order to assess their current development and set goals for their professional development.
